Two Leicestershire Police officers recognised for performing life-saving CPR

Today is Restart A Heart Day, a national day raising awareness of cardiac arrest and the importance of learning CPR.

Earlier this year PCs Joe Lloyd and Laurie Appleton from Rutland Police were recognised for their efforts in saving a cyclist's life by giving effective, early CPR for 16 minutes.

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision in Leicester city centre this morning (Saturday).

Police received a call at 9.24am reporting a collision involving a motorcyclist and a car in Church Gate, Leicester.

East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the scene. The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, has been taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with serious injuries.

No other injuries have been reported.

Road closures are in place while initial enquiries are carried out at the scene.

Detectives are appealing to anyone with any information in relation to the incident to make contact.

Detective Constable Maggie Langton said: “We are currently carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw either of the vehicles beforehand to make contact with us.

“If you have any CCTV from the area or any dashcam footage, please also check this and get in touch with us.”
